Microsoft WSUS - there's something better - Aagon GmbH

02.09.2020

Sooner or later, every IT administrator learns an important lesson: using WSUS to tackle Windows patching is unpleasant. Unpleasant in every respect, because many administrators see WSUS as a necessary evil. Using the supposedly free WSUS is often the first choice an organisation makes to automate Windows patching. After all, it is better than doing the whole process manually.

However, WSUS itself is notoriously cumbersome to manage. It also lacks many functions that would make life much easier for administrators. This is hardly surprising, as the actual service concept here is limited to Windows itself. Third-party software is often not even considered by WSUS and because WSUS is free, there is no great interest on Microsoft's part in improving WSUS further or at least equipping it with the functions that would make life much easier for administrators. There is no way to track the status of your tasks, report on work done or install non-Microsoft updates.

Free is just free...

Did we just say "free"? Wait a minute! Have you ever thought about the hidden costs that WSUS entails? If so, the calculation looks completely different. When you consider the number of hours and additional software required to fully manage your environment, it quickly becomes clear that WSUS is ultimately more expensive than any paid solution.

Such a massive commitment of resources just to ensure your Windows clients are updated is a worrying waste of time that your IT team could be using for critical or more interesting or innovative projects.

All of these issues can be mitigated with ACMP Complete Windows Update Management. And by that we also mean Complete, because essential criticisms of missing functions can be dealt with naturally and without additional effort with ACMP CAWUM.

  • Complete overview of the IT infrastructure down to the smallest detail
  • Prioritisation and distribution of different patches based on their defined priority filters
  • Unified endpoint patching within a few minutes

This allows you to protect your IT environment from vulnerabilities and keep your Windows installation up to date at all times.

Incidentally, the abbreviation ACMP CAWUM was created directly in the Aagon development department. ACMP CAWUM also plays an important role in a video that we would like to recommend to you at this point. Search for "CAWUM in brief" on YouTube .
